A Planner

This is my biggest essential, especially if you are someone that is going to be involved in extracurriculars or have a job on top of schoolwork. There’s no way I could just use my phone as a planner in college because I have too much going on! I loved my Lilly Pulitzer planner, but now I just buy them from Target because they are much more affordable but work just as well. My goal is to have an Erin Condren planner one day, however!

Colored Pens

These are basically just for your planner.

Folders/Binders & Notebooks

This is however you prefer to organize your schoolwork. Personally, I get a folder and matching notebook for each class!

Pens & Pencils

This is pretty much a given. Make sure you get good ones!

Stapler & Staples

I like to just keep a mini one in my bag, because you never know when you’ll need to staple a paper together.

Paper Clips

They’re handy for keeping papers together until you can get to a stapler.

These are great to have for highlighting in your textbooks (which P.S., you can still do even if you’re renting them!), highlighting important things in your planner, or highlighting things in your notes that your professor specifically says will be on the exam!

You may think that you won’t need one after high school, but trust me when I say that you will! At the very least, get a tote bag or a large purse.

I suggest getting both the regular sized ones and the flag sized. The flag sized ones are perfect for marking pages in your textbooks and planner!

Flash Drive

This is great to have to keep your files on as a back-up, in case something would happen to your computer. Also, specific classes may require you to keep all your work on one flash drive!

Index Cards

I swear by these for studying for exams. Everyone has different study methods, but these are what I use to study terms and definitions. Just writing the note cards helps me in remembering them, even if I don’t get a chance to actually look at them before the test!

You most likely will have a printer and printing credit at your school/library, but I really like having a printer in my room as well. It’s great for when you’re printing something late at night and don’t feel like leaving your room, or for when you remember that you need to print something for class right as you’re about to walk out the door to go there! They have some very inexpensive options at Wal-Mart.

Scissors & Tape

Both come in handy for various things.
