Makeup Favorites of 2016

This is a bit late and doesn’t need too much of an introduction, but here are my makeup favorites of 2016! Near the last couple weeks of 2016, because of the holidays, I tried out a LOT of new makeup that I love, but didn’t want to include them in this because I haven’t been using them long enough to consider them a favorite for the entire year. So, I will probably be doing a January 2017 favorites with those included 🙂

I also left a few categories out, because I either just didn’t find any products I absolutely love that year, couldn’t choose a favorite, or my new favorite is one of the ones I’ve only been using for a few weeks!

Without too much more rambling, here are my favorite makeup products from the past year 🙂

Primer: e.l.f. Hydrating Face Primer

Now, I know that there is most likely a primer out there that would be better for my skin and I am still searching for it. However, this is my second one from the year and is almost empty, so I’ve obviously used it a ton and felt like I should include it! It does do a good job at hydrating my skin, and keeps my makeup lasting pretty long. When my skin is really bad, though, my makeup tends to become cakey or flakey. That’s probably more of a skin issue than a primer issue though! For only $6, I think this is a great primer.

Foundation: Revlon Colorstay for Normal/Dry Skin

I’ve been using this for a long time, and have to admit that I do have a new favorite that I purchased over the holidays (tune into my January favorites to find out what it is!) However, this is still my drugstore favorite for foundation and was a favorite throughout the year! It has really good coverage, and is one of the only foundations I have that is the perfect color match for me. The new packaging includes a pump, too! I would most likely repurchase this and really do love it.

Powder: Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless

This is a surprising favorite, because I have very dry skin. I picked this up when looking for a new setting powder, and was disappointed when I got home because I accidentally bought the one for oily skin. I can’t really tell the difference, though! It keeps my skin looking matte without making it look dry. As you can tell, I’m almost out of it!

Blush: Jaclyn Hill Face Palette (This was limited edition!)

I don’t have a picture of this because I accidentally left it at school while home for break, but I was OBSESSED with the blushes in this palette! I use every single one on a daily basis (interchangeably, not all of them at once obviously). They are beautiful colors and so pigmented!

Highlight: Ulta Illuminating Powder in Yellow Diamond

I wish that I could have used the Jaclyn Hill Face Palette for this as well, because the highlights are what I was more excited for in that palette. The colors just don’t work with my skin tone unfortunately!

I’m not usually a huge fan of Ulta brand products, but this highlight is one that I have loved so much. It’s pigmented and the perfect color! (The picture doesn’t do it justice at all.)

Contour: Wet n’ Wild Contouring Palette in Dulce De Leche

This was the first contouring product that I bought to test it out and LOVE it! It’s so easy to work with and the color is perfect. I recently even started using the lighter color to highlight and lighten up the contour when I need to!

Eyebrow: Anastasia Dipbrow in Blonde

This can be a difficult product to work with and definitely isn’t for everyone (their BrowWiz is better for a lot of people), but for someone with me who barely has any eyebrows it is a LIFE CHANGER! There’s so much product, too. It’s lasted me forever and I still have a ton of it left! I also bought the brush/spoolie to go with it and it’s perfect.

Eye Primer: NYX Eye Shadow Base in Skin Tone

This is the perfect skin-tone color and keeps my eyeshadows lasting all day!

Eyeshadow: Morphe 35F Palette

The colors in this are GORGEOUS. It’s perfect for fall. The only thing is that I wish there were some more matte colors, but that’s the only problem I have with the palette!

Eyeliner: Kardashian Beauty Deeply Felt Liner (no longer available online, I’m not sure about in store!)

I was skeptical to try this because I haven’t really heard too much about the Kardashian Beauty line, but I’m so glad I did. It was very inexpensive (I believe $8) and works so well. It’s a super dark black and stays on so well! It’s also very easy to use to do a wing with.

Lip Exfoliator: e.l.f. Lip Exfoliator

20170105_144036

I could rave about this for forever. Along with my dry skin, I also get extremely dry/cracked lips. This has honestly saved them! The only downside is that it’s not an edible one. I stopped using it for a while to try a LUSH one because they’re edible which is honestly just so much easier to use, but it did absolutely nothing for my lips and I think was making them worse. When I went back to the elf one, it IMMEDIATELY got them back to normal! I could not recommend this product any more. It’s only $3 and they recently released new flavors! (Mine is unflavored)

Lipstick: Sephora Cream Lip Stain

I received this in my December Sephora Play! box. So, this is more of a recent product but I had to include it because they’re AMAZING. Prior to receiving this, I would have said the Kylie Lip Kits are my favorite (I have 2 of them as well as a gloss/liner duo). These are so much better though! They stay on FOREVER, are practically 100% transfer proof, and the best part is that they don’t dry out your lips! Kylie lip kits have the same first two qualities, but they dry out my lips so bad and I really can’t stand it. These are so much better and I definitely plan on purchasing some full sized ones!

Applicator: BeautyBlender

This is another one I recently used, I received it for Christmas, but it’s amazing. I used the Real Techniques one all year, which I did like, but I love this so much more. A lot of people say that they’re the same exact thing, but I don’t think that at all. The original beauty blender is so much better and applies my makeup so smoothly.

Honorable Mentions: LUSH Skin Drink Moisturizer & Glamglow Thirstymud Hydrating Treatment

I don’t have pictures of these, because I wasn’t going to include them since they aren’t makeup, but I had to! They’re an important part to my overall makeup routine and have done so much for my dry skin. The Glamglow is super expensive (I only have a sample from a Sephora Play! box) but I honestly think I’ll be purchasing a full size of it when I run out, it’s that good!

What were your favorite makeup products of 2016?
