It’s that time of the month — my October Sephora Play! box has arrived! I’m always so excited to get these. They give me a chance to try out some great high-end products that I might not have otherwise purchased, without having to fork out a ton of cash (it’s only $10 per month!)
As you might remember from my most recent post, I think that Boxycharm is the best subscription box out there. But this is a VERY close second. That’s why I want to show y’all what I get in my box every month… so you can see if it’s worth it and maybe decide to purchase for yourself! It’s also a great way to get some extra points every month.
So, without further ado, here’s what I received in this month’s Play! box. The theme was Public Display of Complexion.
Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Skin Booster
Retails for: $41.00 (0.4 oz)
Sample size in Play! box: 0.4 oz
Average 4 star rating on Sephora’s site from 22 reviews
This is a hydrating face serum that’s said to give you a plumped look, prep your skin for makeup, and hydrate the skin to smooth the appearance of fine lines.
It is made to illuminate your skin, and is rich in hyaluronic acid and argan oil extract.
How to use: Apply before your favorite primer.
I’m definitely excited about this one! I didn’t start using serums until very recently. Actually, the first one that I started using regularly was the Algenist night pressed serum that was in September’s Play! box. (I actually just ran out — and am very happy that my mom wasn’t using hers from her box, because it’s become my new holy grail!) So I’m super excited to try this out.
Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops
Retails for: $42.00 (0.5 oz)
Sample size in Play! box: 0.5 oz
Average 4.25 star rating on Sephora’s site from 1,062 reviews
Shade: Moonlight (said to be a soft, silver glow on Sephora’s site)
This is a formula of illuminating (or bronzing) drops meant to customize your ideal glow with a liquid metal or sun kissed finish. They come in 9 shades — 7 illuminators and 2 matte bronzers.
They can be used to create a buildable highlight or a sun-kissed tint.
This product is vegan and clinically tested. It is free of fragrance, gluten, mineral oil and talc.
How to use: Use alone for a strobing or bronzing effect; or add to your favorite foundation or skincare product for an all-over glow.
The more drops you use, the more luminosity or bronze you will get.
I am SO excited for this one!!! I’ve always wanted to try the Cover FX drops, but just never bought them. The site says that this shade is a silvery glow, but it looked WAY more of a gold or bronze when I swatched it. I guess I’ll just have to see when I actually use it!
Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation
Retails for: $43.00 (1.01 oz)
Sample size in Play! box: 0.16 oz
Average 4 star rating on Sephora’s site from 7,107 reviews
Shade: R230 (or 115 Ivory)
Skin type: Sensitive, normal, dry, combination, oily
Medium coverage & natural finish
This is said to be an HD foundation with an ultra-lightweight texture that melts into your skin for unfiltered perfection in every light. It’s said to be great with 4k technology!
I’m definitely excited for this, but am wondering if it will be good for my skin. The site says it’s good for every skin type, but I’ve found that that’s rarely true. I have a feeling it won’t be great for my dry skin, but I’m always excited to try out a new foundation!
Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder in Translucent
Retails for: $38.00 (1 oz.); $23.00 (0.33 oz)
Sample size in Play! box: 0.12 oz
Average 4.5 star rating on Sephora’s site from 5,364 reviews
This is a silky powder with a touch of sheer coverage to set makeup for lasting wear. It locks in makeup for a long-lasting wear, while creating a modern matte finish. It ‘s a no-flashback finish, and will never look cakey.
It’s supposed to work on all skin tones, but they recently released a Translucent Medium-Deep shade designed to be translucent on medium-deep to the deepest skin tones.
This is another one I’m a little nervous about — powder are usually a big miss for me with my dry skin. The only one I’ve found that really works for me is Too Faced Born This Way, so we’ll have to see how this does!
BECCA First Light Filter Face Primer

Average 4.15 star rating on Sephora’s site from 741 reviews
Skin type: normal, oily, combination, dry, sensitive
This is a skin awakening primer that instantly reduces signs of a bad complexion day to leave the complexion fresh, awake, and hydrated.
It’s supposed to give solutions for:
- Uneven skin tone
I absolutely LOVE trying new primers, and this one sounds like it will be great for my dry skin!
Chanel GABRIELLE CHANEL Eau de Parfum

I have never, and probably will never, spent anywhere near this much money on a perfume. So I’m pretty excited to get it as a sample, because I never would be able to use it otherwise!
